Creative researcher/strategist based in Torrance, California.

Hello, my name is Zulema Palencia. I am majoring in Advertising & Public Relations at California State University Dominguez Hills. I am the club President of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), where I have mentored students and club members to find their place in the industry. I am expected to graduate in May 2024 with my fellow Toros. I am interested in following my path of creativity and research/strategy. Running a club, working on pitches, and creating Instagram Posts have increased the skills needed for the industry.

These are a collection of photographs and paintings that I have made throughout the years for myself and others. I enjoyed teaching myself how to create art and perfecting it. I would go on drives with my camera next to me, just ready to take a shot that called out to me. I sat for hours coming up with a vision in my head that led to colorful paintings on the canvas.

SUPER RESEARCHERS PRESENTATION

This pitch was to address the issues that CSUDH had with their students who would not attend campus events. Key research was conducted to find the answers the campus was looking for by actively collecting data and by asking students in-person questions on campus. We used adobe Premier to edit bit of pieces that we needed for our presentation. We used Canva to create our presentation that followed the theme of our companies name.

FEND

PRESENTATION

This pitch was to find ways to promote a product called FEND. In the pitch, we conducted research on questions that Fend can use to help gain awareness. A plan for the initiative was also created to help bring in success. We created ways to promote on social media with influencers. We used Google slide to create our presentation.

CSUDH ATHLETICS PRESENTATION

This was a pitch for the rebranding of the athletics department at CSUDH. The Instagram Posts, C-Swats, tagline, etc. are key elements for the department to use for next year. I researched real athletes who attend CSUDH to be our target audience. We researched ways to promote events to bring attention and awareness. We used Canva to create our presentation.

Lululemon

This was a pitch for the rebranding of Lululemon Athletica. In the pitch, my group and I conducted a global call to action for Generation Z to promote mental awareness. We created a few social media campaigns for Lululemon’s followers to take part in by using the proper hashtags. We create events that a community can take part in together. We pitched our ideas in front of all the students that are in PRSSA as well as people within Lululemon such as, Paul Gomez. We used Canva to create our presentation.

Women Living With A Purpose

For my COM 366/367 class, we had to choose a non-profit to work with. I worked with a non-profit called Women Living With A Purpose. I researched who they were and looked at their information on Instagram and their website to configure a fact sheet. I used a program called Xtensio to put all the information together.

PRSSA Assets

As the President of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) we held events to gather AD&PR students at CSUDH. Several events we had on campus were general meetings, inviting guest speakers, and hosting workshops to help give guidance to the students. I used Canva to create eye-catching posts that will bring attraction to the Communications students at CSUDH.

TUMS INSTAGRAM ASSETS

For my Communications class, I was tasked to create Instagram posts for the brand, Tums. Each post followed a holiday theme such as Halloween, Fourth of July, and a special tribute. I used Canva to help create fast and entertaining posts that will attract people on Instagram.

I have created Instagram posts for my California State University Dominguez Hills internships where I have interviewed seniors within the Communications Department. I used Adobe Programs and Canva to create eye-catching posts for the CSUDH students. I have created and edited a podcast for a class using the required Adobe Programs. When applying to the MAIP Program under the 4A’s, I have created a 27 Questions Vogue video highlighting who I am as a person today.

TORRANCE COUNCIL MEETING

I attended a city council meeting in Torrance where I heard several proposals. I had to play a role as a reporter and take account of all the discussions. I chose one proposal to write about and I wrote about the passing of the mandatory seismic retrofit in Old Torrance.

Wow Story

In my COM 366/367 class, we had to write about the story that made us the people we are today. I also wrote about how I was raised by other family members and I wrote about my goals for the future.

Cover Letter

In my COM 490 class, the assignment was to look at jobs that we can see ourselves working or what we found interesting on LinkedIn. I found a Social Manager Position at Netflix that I found interesting. The next step was to write a cover letter as if we were applying and showcasing our interest in the position.

Strategic Plan

In my internship for the Communications Department at California State University Dominguez Hills, my supervisor asked me to make a strategic plan. Within the strategic plan was a list of ideas of what the Instagram page for the COM Department could use to attract the COM students at CSUDH.
